TOBACCO SMUGGLING.
[3Y TELEGRAPH. —PRESS' ASSOCIATION. ] Timaro, Wednesday. A wharf-hand named Matthews was caught last night carrying a 221b box of plug tobacco ashore from tho Janet Nicoll, and Mr. Cowper, Collector of Customs, sued for a penalty of £100. Defendant pleaded guilty. The Resident Magistrate reduced the penalty to one-fourth. Mr. Cowper stated tho man told him ho only went to get a pound, and v.v,3 told he could not have a uoiind. lie rivHsfc take a box.
