THURSDAY HALF-HOLIDAY.
[by TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Timaru, Wednesday. The Thursday half-holiday here is in some danger. The Woollen Factory Company, and following their lead other manufacturing firms, ask the Borough Council to exempt them from the operations of the local order changing the Saturday half-holiday from Saturday to Thursday, as breaking work in the middle of the week is a source of loss. Other business people petition that if any exemption is allowed, it be only in favour of steam users. The Mayor thinks ho cannot fix two days under the Employment of Females Act. The matter is to be further inquired into, and brought under the notice of the members.
