ANOTHER FIRE AT THE SUNNYSIDE ASYLUM.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, Thursday. Another outbreak of fire took place at Sunnyside Lunatic Asylum this afternoon. It broke out shortly before one o'clock, and destroyed five unoccupied wards, situated at the western end of the building. A party of men had been at work at the Asylum, removing the debris of the late fire, and they left a fire off the windy side of the building, and went to dinner. It was blowing almost a gale, and sparks were carried on to the Asylum building, which was soon inflames. The fire spread very rapidly along the balcony to a ward, and resulted in the five newly-erected wards being destroyed. Despite the high wind, the fire was soon got under, as no mistake was made this time in getting out all the Christchurch fire brigades. The fire was the result of pure carelessness on the part of the men who started a fire on the windy side of the building.
