SIR W. FOX IN CHRISTCHURCH.

[by TELEGRAPH.—PRESS association.] Christchorch, Tuesday. This evening Sir William Fox addressed .1 crowded meeting in the Congregational school, combating Mr. Alfred Saunders' assertion that it was preferable to establish .1 Government distillery to make spirits in the colony than to send iiome for them, as it was impossible that the consumption of spirits would ever cease. Sir W. Fox contended that this would place enormous power in the hands of the Government, who would be able to manipulate the grain market so as to gain the support of th« farmers at election times. Mr. Saunders replied, denying Sir W. Fox's assertion. Votes of thanks were passed to both speakers.
