PROTECTIONIST BANQUET.

Dunedin, Tuesday. The Protection League celebrated the passing of the Tariff by a banquet to the city members this evening, when about 80
were present. The Minister of Defence sent an apology. Mr. Connell, president of the League, presided. In the course of his speech Dr. Fitchett stated he had changed his opinion as to the number of members of the House, and he gave notice to his constituents that, should an opportunity arise, he would vote for retaining the present number.
