THE LATE DROWNING CASE.
Yesterday afternoon a coroner's inquest was held at Gleeson's Hotel, Cußtoms.Btreet "West, before Dr. Philson, coroner, to inquire into the circumstances attending the drowning of Jno. Andersen, who was found drowned in the harbour on Thursday under circumstances reported in yesterday's Herald. A jurywas appointed, of which Mr.D.Mslntosb was chosen foreman. After the body was viewed at the morgue, evidence was taken. iri. Stevens deposed to finding the body, and reporting the matter to the police. Michael Corcoran, of the Flagstaff Hotel, deposed to the deceased having been in his employ as " boots," etc., and that he understood the man was about to have been employed in a similar capacity at Northcote. John A, Van Brackle met the deceased laet Wednesday afternoon, and offered Andersen a bed at his place. At that time the man was quite rational. The deceaaed was near-sighted, and the witness believed it was owing to thi3 that he lost his life. Water Police Constable McDonald a so gave evidence, after which the jury returned a verdict of "Found -browned."
