OPOTIKI TOWN DISTRICT BOARD.

The general monthly meeting of the Opotiki Town District Board was held in the boardroom on July 19. Present : Messrs. R. "VVright (chairman), H. G. Walmsley, W. Law, and Alfred Parkinson. In reply to the application i-f Mr. W. McCauley, to encloee a portion of Belt-street, at the back of his property, it was lesolved that this and ali other similar applications be declined, and that no road in the township be closed, except for purposee of pvblic safety, in the future. Two letters were read from Messrs. liesketh and Kichmond explaining cause of deky in preparation of leases o! Town Reserves, from his absence in England, and also certain technical difficulties which appeared in the instructions. A letter was received from Mr. C. Hennessey asking for an extension of time for the completion of his contract in Union-street. No eiteneion was granted. Ths surface committee reported upon Mr. Wagner's contract for concrete /ulverts to the effect that the whole will be 'aroperly completed in a few days. The •Chairman elated that he had prone into the question of the establishment of a Fire Brigade in the township, but had not succeeded in obtaining sufficient information to justify convening a publio meeting upon thn aubject, The Chairman stated that he had interviewed tha trnstees of the Opotiki portion of tho Waioeka Domain, who had requested him to express their willingness to hand over thhir trust to the Town Board on condition that the land be fenced and im« proved and kept for a publio recreation ground. Iteeolred, " That a reply be forwarded to tho trustees stating that the •Board will accept their offer with the conditions suggested." The following accounts •were received :— J A. Busst, lighting lampa, IG3 ; Abbot and White, timber for bridges, £4 17* ; C. T). Litchtield, six months' salary, £5 ; Abbot and Lee. to erecting 5 lampposts, £4 Gi; Thomas H. Parkinson, June and July eurface work, £10 2s 9d ; Jno. Parkinson, ereoting timber culverts, and clearing away willow, £3 2a; T, & 8, Morrin, 2 street lamps, £7. Tho above aocounte w«ro then passed for payment. It was resolved that in future tho salary of the clerk be raised to twenty pound per annum. Tho non completion of Wagner's oontract for the concrete oulverts in Duke-atreel; was discussed, and it was resolved that Air. Wagner be allowed one week more to complete the contract, after which the fall penalty will be enforced. Resolved, " That the surfaceman clean the two wharves regularly twioe a ■week." Messrs. Wright aud Alf. Parkineon were elected surface committee for the current month. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman. — [Own Correspondent. |
