RETRENCHMENT IN THE CIVIL SERVICE.
« [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. A PRINTKD document has been circulated among Civil servants relative to promotion and salaries. The general effect is to out down salaries on promotions so as to gradually lower the gro»s amount paid in that way, and to indioate that in future £600 a year will be the maximum salary for heads of departments.
