THE IRISH QUESTION.
[reuter's telegram.]
SPEECH BY LORD CHURCHILL.
London, February 1. In the House of Commons last night the debate on the Address-in-Reply was resumed. In the course of the debate Lord Randolph Churchill declared that the support of the Unionist Liberals was useful in the present crisis, but Conservatives would soon walk alone. He looked to the Conservatives alone to uphold the union between Great Britain and Ireland.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Lord Churchill states that Mr. Chamberlain is urging Mr. Gladstone, Lords Hartington and Salisbury, and Mr Parne'il to confer regarding the future Government in Ireland. Mr. Parnell's amendment to the Address-in-Reply suggests that instead of increased stringency, reforms should be introduced calculated to satisfy the needs and secure the confidence of the Irish people.
