It is now stated that the number 01 people who were drowned by the sinking of the Kapunda was 300. Tho vessel sank almost immediately after the collision took place. Th« vessel which collided with the Kapunda also sank. The name of the vessel has not yet been, ascertained.

The ship Kapunda sank in 16seca. Thirty-three of the passengers were coming out under engagement to the Western Australian Land Company. Besides these there were 227 emigrants and 39 of a crew. The Crown Agents have cabled to Bahia for particulars of the survivors.

The total number of passengers and crew on board tho Kapunda was 320, and the only saloon passengers were a family named Field, consisting of father, mother, and two children.

London, February 1

The barque Ada Melmore. 569 tons, was the vessel which collided with the Kapunda. The collision occurred south of Maccio, a town about ninety miles south of Pernambuso. The Ada Melmore was injured so that she also sank. Barker (the first mate of the Kapunda), the carpenter, and four sailors, together with eight emigrants—named Wiggins, Barnes, Daley, Russell, O'Oallaghan, Sandford, Reece, and Broadhurst— landed at Bahia. It is unknown whether anyone else was saved, but it is reported at Rio and Maccio that all of the women and children perished.
