The Government Life Inaurauoe Depart* ment having finally resolved to erect new offioes for the conduct of their business in this city, on their pre'mieei in Queen-street lately Messrs. Sheras, had plans prepared by Mr. Henry 3. Wade, architect, for that purpose, and on Tuesday received tenders, subjoined, and which having proved to be below the amount voted, the lowest, that of Messrs. Philoox and Son, has been accepted. The present structure is to be removed, and the building will be on the site oooupied by the Union luourance Company and Messrs. Shera Brothers, .and will occupy the entire frontage to Queen-street, and in depth to the new warehouse at the back, and will be three storeys above footway, with a cellsfr or base-' mont, well lighted and drained. The ground floor will be occupied by the association, with a large public office 25 x 27, with manager's office. 17 x 11 ; stationery-room, seven feet square ; medical office and waltiog-room, each 10.6 x 11; and office at back, 22 x 12. A side entrance has been provided from the lane. On this floor are two strong rooms, Bxß, and a vestibule nine feet wide, with main stairs to first floor. Lavatory accommodation is secured in a well or area, open to the top, scouring good light and ample ventilation. The first floor is divided into neven well-ventilated offices, which may be used either separately or en suite, and two strong rooms. The top storey is not to be divided at present into offices, but will be so soon as required. Access will be obtained from the first floor into the upper storey of present warehouse, which will be divided mto offioes as required. The present yard at rear of block is to be covered with a twostorey building to correspond with present new building, and suitable for office or ware house purposes as deaired. The building will be of briok, finished in cement, and is designed to correspond with the front of the National Insurance Company's building, ereoted by the same architect. Owing to tho energy of the distriot agent, Mr. W. J. Speight, tenants have been uecured for a considerable portion of the building not required by the department, and it will be a source of considerable satisfaction to the insured to know that this is likely to prove a remunerative asaet in the business of the association. It is intended to pnsh on the work eo as to have the foun> dation stone of tho new building laid by Sir Jnlius Vogel before hie return to Wellington next month. The tends™ are as follows :—W.
