VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
♦ __ Field Officers.A meeting of officers was held at the Drill-shed yesterday morning, when Major-General Sir George Wbitmore presided, and amongst those present were: Colonels Lyon and Roberts, Lieutenant* Colonels Shepherd, Dignan, Mshon, Majors Isaacs, Clifton, Birnie, Tonki, and Captains Payne and Keep, hon. Captain Whitney, and Lieutenants Falconer and Elmes. The Chairman stated that the meeting was for the purpose of arranging the date for the field officers' examination, and also to introduce the candidates to Colonel Roberts and Lieutenant Falconer. He suggested that the examination should be on some day between January 22 and 28. which Colonel Bailey would fix. This was agreed to, and it was understood that two colonels, four majors, and two adjutants will go up for examination. It was also agreed .that the above should procued to Fort Cautley on Friday ! next, to receive instruction In throwing up trenches, &c. The Thames Volunteers. — MajorGeneral Sir George Whitmore, attended by Lieutenant-Colonel Shepherd and Captain Whitney, who acted as A. D.O. to Sir. George Whitmore, inspected the Thames volunteers on Tuesday. There were good musters of both companies, the "Naval Artillery mustering 58 and the Rifle Rangers 03. The men were complimented upon their appearance* which was clean and smart, and Sir George hoped that they would continue to improve.
