[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.! a DrjNEDiN, Wednesday. At the meeting of the Presbyterian Synod to-day the report on the state of religion stated that while the number of communicants on the roll showed an increase of 600 there was really a decrease of about 100. It stated that either the rolls were badly kept or there w«a an alarming process of lapsing from membership. At the evening sitting a motion was carried that a loyal address be presented to the Queen on the occasion of her jubilee, and to the Governor on his present visit. Two applications were received for the position of theological professor, and the Rev. John Dunlop, M.A., Dundee, was appointed. The other candidate was the Rev. Mr. Finlayeon, of Blueakin.
