[FROM our OWN correspondents.! _ Hamilton, Monday,' • Great complaints are made by the settlers and others using the Waipa-Raglan Road of the negleoted state in whioh it is left, although a sum of some £300 was placed on the estimates last session for its repair. Several of the culverts and one of the bridges are in a dangerous condition. _, Cambridge, Monday. The regular monthly meeting of the Cam. bridge Highway District Board was held on. Saturday afternoon at Hewitt's Hotel. Pre-, sent: Messrs. James Taylor (chairman), S. S. Graham, Forrest, and J. P. Thomson. As soon as the minutes were read and confirmed Mr. Thomson moved, " That the resolution passed at the meeting of May last, and sub* sequently confirmed at the September meeting, that the Board take land contiguous tor the Cambridge - Hamilton main road, belonging to Mr C» Ewen, so as to give aooess to Mr Barugh's property, be rescinded." Mr Graham seconded. Mr Forrest protested strongly against the Board stultifyingitself m this manner, and pointed out that a cost of nearly £10 had been incurred in surveying and advertising, and asked who was to pay this* as it was not fair to take it out of the ratepayers* money. He also pointed out that the motion was illegal, the notice necessary for rescinding a resolution of the Board (seven days) not having been given. A copy of the Act to verify this assertion not being procurable, the motion was pub and earned, Messrs. Taylor, Graham, and' Thomson voting for, and Mr. Forrest against it. The olerk reported that the application . to the Waikato County Counoil to make the drain from section 7 to section 63, parish of Hautapu, a publio drain, had been agreed to, and that the preliminary steps to do so had been taken, the drain to follow the oourse of the present drain. Accounts to the amount of £4 17s 6d were passed, Mr. Forrest strongly objecting to the passing off the Government printer's charge of 10s for? the publication in the Gazette of the notice) for taking the land before referred to. alleging that the cost incurred should be paid by those rescinding the resolution. It was resolved to send the surface men to repair the road near Mr. Douglas' property. At the meeting of the Taotaoroa Highway Board, on Saturday, present, Messrs. Hunt (chairman), Kallendar, Clements, and Bromskin, the only business done was to sanotion an expenditure, not exceeding £20, in improving Brace's Hill, a portion of the road lately dedicated by the Auckland Agricultural Company. Complaints have been made that some of the district roads on the east side of Cambridge need the attention of the local body, notably Viotoria road and other roads leading to the stations. There are some two miles whioh it is said require gravelling, and Mr. Forrest, of the Cambridge Highway Board, has been deputed to go over the ground and report upon the matter. Te AwAMrmr, Monday. Mr.- Coates, the contractor, has now got the line ballasted within one mile of Otorohanga, and by to-morrow the laying of the rails will be completed right into the station ground at that place. [by TELEGRAPH.— own cobkesp»ndbnt.J Hamilton, Monday evening. At a meeting of the Hamilton Cricket Club Mr. J. B. Whyte was elected president. Mr. W. A. Graham and Mr. F. a! Whitaker vice-presidents, and Messrs*. Bindon and Stevens treasurer and secretary". A oommittee was appointed consisting of Messrs. Barton, Edgecumbe, Stevens, Kirk, and Radford. It was resolved to ask the Paterangi club to play a match on Saturday week at Hamilton, and the Tuhikaramea club as soon after as might be convenient to them. Mr. W. A. Graham has purchased the house and farm, four hundred acres, the property of the late Mr. Aitken, of the Thames, situated on the boundary of the Hamilton borough.
