The committee of the Chamber of Deputies are desirous of banishing all the members of late regnant familiea. STATE-DIRECTED EMIGRATION. London, June 8. Lord Brabazon presides at the Statedirected Emigration Conference, which will be held in the Exhibition building shortly. CABLE CHARGES. London, June 8. The New South Wales Government now oppose the new Press rates. Sir Saul Samuel has spoken to Sir F. D. Bell, and expressed a desire that the New Zealand Government would act in concert with the other colonies, as the cable companies were prepared to reduce the cost of public messages to four shillings, provided the colonies would make them a guarantee on the average of the last three years' receipts. The New Zealand Government decline to purchase the cable or to renew the subsidy, and the rate will probably be increased in July.

The directors of the Orient Steam Navigation Company gave a large banquet on board the Austral, at Gravesend yesterday. A large number of guests were present, including fully 200 representative colonists. Mr. Green, one of the managing directors of the company, made a speech, in which he dwelt on the loyalty maifested by the colonies to the mother country. COLONIAL COPYRIGHT ACT. London, June 8. The Colonial Copyright Act was read a second time in the House of Loii'ds to-day. THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. San Francisco, June 7. The Union Steamphip Co.'s R.M.s. Mariposa left on the sth instant for Auckland. SCULLING. London, June 9. Beach has challenged to scull any man in the world for £500 a side. Matterson, who was recently defeated by Perkins, is anxious for another match with him. HOMEWARD MAILS. London, June 7.
