A serious accident occurred to William Turner, a young man employed at the new battery near the Crown mine, Karangahake. tie was helping to jack a log. when it fell upon him. He sustained extensive contusions on the chest and back, aud a bad concusaioD if not fracture of the base of the skull. His recovery is doubtful.
