MR. T. TRIMNELL'S ORGAN RECITAL.
■ ♦ ■ Mr. Trimnell's organ recital at St. Patrick's Cathedral last night was a decided success, for there was a good attendance, and Mr. Trimuell proved himself to bo a thorough master of his instrument. The programme comprised Mendelssohn's sonato in D, the larghctto from Beethoven's second symphony, and several popular works. Tho sonato is a tine specimen of legitimate organ composition, and was decidedly the piece dr. resistance. It opens with a chorale, which serves as a sort of introduction to a theme in the relative minor, accompanied by the pedals played, as it yfere pizzicato, which, when duly worked out, leads straight into a spirited concluding movement marked allegro inatKtnso. The larjzhetto, perhaps the most beautiful ever written, oven by Buethoven, is in quite a different style ; for, being an an adaptation of a symphonic movement, the player has to assimilate his instrument as much as possible to an orchestra. Mr. Trimnell rendered both these works admirably, as indeed ho did every number iu the programme, hia treatment of the sonata being particularly happy. Mr. T. Burnham sang "Comfort Ye," "Every Valley." "Thy Rebuke hath broken His Heart," and "Behold and see," from "The Messiah," very effectively, the accompaniments being played by Mr. Trimnell. who seems to be a perfect master of this dilhcult branch of his profession. The recital terminated with Guilmant'o tuneful march, "De Procession.''
