. * — . [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. Colonel Gkoroe Whit work returned to Wellington this morning from Nelson, whore he has been inspecting the local forces. He informs me that he will proceed to Auckland in the Hinemoa on the Ist of November. He speaks confidently of tho Naval Volunteer movements to take place in Auckland on the b'rinco of Wales' Birthday. He says that the Auckland display will, if successful, have an important bearing upon the general estimate to bo formed of the efficiency of the colonial forces for the purposes of defence. Ho evidently entertains a high opinion of Auckland Volunteers. The Government steamer Ilinemoa will take part in the naval steamer fight. He also says that ho had expressed a desire to havo the sham right on the 7th or Stb, so as not to interfere with the Cattle Show and other displays, but the local feeling was in favour of tho Oth.
