THE TOBACCO TRADE IN AUCKLAND.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —I see by a local in this morning's issue that you attribute to Mr. Vollbracnt the honour of having initiated the tobaccoindustry in Auckland. So far from this being the case, Mr. Vollbraeht only appeared on the scene for the first time when he applied ior the management of a company that was already in process of formation, he being at that time in Wellington. I allude to the Auckland Tobacco Company, the natural outgrowth oE the Auckland Tobacco Growing Association, which had been in active existence for a year previously. To Mr. W. H. Metcalfe the credit of having formed the association is entirely due, and to him also and a few of the mem bers is the credit-due of its subsequent extension into the present Auckland " Tobacco Company, with which Mr. Vollbracht has at no time had any connection.—l am, &c., Honour to whom Honour is Due.
