The annual examinations of St. Patrick's boys' school, Wyndham-street,. and St. Peter's, Pitt-stveet, took place on Dec. 20, and passed ofi'very successfully, in.the presence of the Very Rev. Monsignorc Fynes, Father Walter McDonald, Father Lenihan, .and a goodly number of parents and friends. Prizes were given in each school to the most deserving pupils. The above schools will close to-morrow (Friday), and will re-open in about three weeks. Special, prizes were presented by the Very Kev. Father Walter McDonald in both schools, for catechism, and for French at St. Peter's. Jt may be mentioned that Mrs. Hackett, Market Hotel, gave two prizes ; Mr. J. Flynn two prizes ; and Monsieur Villeval also offered a prize for French. This gentleman has been exceedingly successful in imparting a sound knowledge of French to the more advanced pupils of St. Peter's school, and his exertions are much appreciated by the clergy and the teacher, Mr. Hamill, who is assisted by Mr. J. Kane. Mr. M. O'Kegan is in charge of St. Tho proceedings in each school wound up by the pupils singing the National Anthem.

Miss Hill's school, Ponscnby, broke up on the 15th December. The prizes, which consisted of a number of handsome volumes, were distributed by Mr. Boardman to the pupils, boys and girls, in the presence of their parents and friends, and the evening was wound up with a pleasant dance, all departing happy and pleased.

The children of the St. Matthew's dayschool celebrated their breaking-up, on the 20th December, in the schoolroom, Hobson-street. Miss Tapper entertained the children at a sumptuous tea. There were present, besides the teachers, the incumbent and liis family, Miss Dawson, and others. After tea, Mr. Tebbs, at the request of the children, presented (on their behalf) Miss Tapper with a very beautiful set of brooch and earrings, in case. The room was tastefully decorated by the children, who enjoyed themselves most thoroughly.

The annual examination of the three schools in connection with St. Patrick's Qathedral was held on Dec. 14. His Lordship Bi.-hop Luck, the "Very Rev. Mousignore Fynss, the Kev. The presentation of prizes to ;the scholars of the Mount Albeet District School took place on Dec. 22. They were presented by Mr. A. K. Taylor, who addressed a few kindly words to the children.

At the breaking up of the Onehunga public school on December a distribution of 93 prize books was made by the Aueklamv Scripture Gift Association, to scholars ranging from six to fourteen years of age, and who had undertaken an exercise from Holy Scripture at their homes. F.aeh paper produced was duly signed by parents testifying to correct repetition. Several ladies and gentlemen attended, and took pirt in the proceedings. A similar distribution of ."2 prizes took place at the Mangere public school on the 11th instant.

Miss 'Putin's boarding-school at the Parsonage, Mangawai, broke upon Dec. i:>, eacii pupil receiving .". prize, the gift of Mr. Mitebelson, M.11.11. In consequence of severe bereavement they had not their usual breaking-up party. We have seen the needlework, both plain and fancy, which does great credit to the establishment. A handsome sofa cushion anil several cushioned of wool beads, crochet netting, &e., are extremely well made, but what- struck me most was p. pair of netted antimacassars, elaboiately darned. The pupils' music testifies to the pains that is taken in instructing them.
