MASONIC.

Tuk quarterly communication of the District Grand Lodge of England was held on the Oth Dec. in the Masonic Hall, Princes-street. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, and the business was of more than ordinary interest, as the officers for the ensuing year were to be installed. Brother G. S. Graham, V.W.D.G.M., who had arrived in Auckland ou the frevioua day, presided,

and. had the pleasure of nominating his own officers, who were installed, Brothers Xonks and addel officiating as conducting stew-arils. The D.D.G.M., Brother Lodder, holding a permanent office, was not, of course, re-invested. The other officers were invested as follows :—Brother W. P. Moat, D.G.S.W.; Brother Dr. Goldsbro', D.G.J.TV.; Brother Rev. C. M. Kelson, D.G. Chaplain; Brother Rev. W. Tebbs, B.G. Registrar ; Brother Dr. Dawson, President Board of General Purposes; Brother H. G. Wade, D.G. Secretary; Brother T. Cole, D.G.S.D.; Brother W. Rattray, D.G. J. D.; Brother Mitchelson, Director of Ceremonies; Brother Waddcl, 5.8.; Brotlier C. Hasketh, Organist; Brother Fenton, Pursuivant; Brother Dargavilie, As-sistant-Pursuivant. The elective offices of Treasurer and Tyler respectively wure, ou the votes of the members, selected as follows : —Brother A. Y. Macuonald, Treasurer, and Brother Captain Tonge, Tvler! The thanks of the Grand Bodge were accorded to Brother C. Porter, who has been Tyler of this D. G. Lodge since its foanda tion, for the services he had rendered. An election by ballot was then held for ten j members for the Board of General Purposes, to act with the chief officers of the Grand Lodge. Dr. Dawson holds this position of President by the nomination of the D. G. M. Tiie eleeteil members r.rc Brothers P. M's Rattray, Hatswell, Fenton, Collins, Hesketh, Skiunci, Waddel, Wright, Leers, and Carlaw. Representatives ol the various lodges were then elected for the Committee of the Fund of Benevolence. The D. G. M. gave a short address at the close of the business, indicating a proposal for a change in the date of the quarterly communication" and indicating that lie would be able to attend more frequently in future. The proceedings terminated in the usual manner. The annual meeting for the installation of officers of the Waitemata Lodge, CS9, E.G., was held at the Masonic Hall, Princesstreet, on the ISth of December. There was a large attendance of brethren, and a good number of P.M.'sand visiting brethren, i Brother A. Wright, W.M., Lodge Ara, and P.M. of Lodge Waitemata, officiated as installing master, and conducted the ceremony in a highly impressive manner. Brother W. A. Ponton, a previous P.M. of tiie Lodge, | was installed as W.M., and proceeded to in- ! vest the officers for the ensuing year as follows:—T. McCuller, S.W.;. Captain J. Elliott, J.W.; Rev. C. M. iNelson, P;M., chaplain; J. L. Hatswell, P.M., treasurer; H. G. Wade, P.M., secretary; J. Butler, D.C. ; Major James Pirie. ' > ' - aanist ; W. H. Jacobs, S.D. : R, Jackson, J.D.; K Augur, I.G. ; H. Fogdeu aud W. Grey, stewards ; and Captan Tonge, tyler. A banquet was held after the proceedings, and the brethren sat down to au excellent spread. The newly-installed "W.M. presided, and proposed the usual loyal aud Masonic toasts. Brother D.D.G.M. Lodder, for the li.C., and Brother P.M. Burns, for the 1.C., made suitable replies, touching feelingly on the amicable terms on which the three constitutions worked in 2\ew Zealand. Brother D.D.G.M. Lodder proposed the health of the W.M., and in doing so spoke of the very masterly way in which he had conducted the affairs of the lodge when he was W.M. previously, and of the knowledge he had displayed of Freemasonry generally. The knowledge of this had led the brethren to entrust him with the Mastership of the ledge for the ensuing year.—The W.M., Brother Fenton, in response, said that the honour had fallen to his lot quite unexpectedly, but as an act of duty becoming every Mason, he had accepted the position of W.M. for another term, and if he had merited the approbation of the brethren in his previous term of office, nothing should be left wantiug on his part to secure a similar result during the present year. — The toast of "The Visiting Brethren" was proposed by Brother P.M. Wade, aud responded to by Brother Po.vlcy. The 1.P.M., Brother Wadilel, proposed "The Health of the Installing Master."—A number of other toasts were proposed and responded to, and a very pleasant evening was spent by the brethren assembled. | Tiie annual meeting of the Star of the North Lodge, 2S"o. IG-17 (8.C.), Whangarei, was held in the Masonic Hall, Whaugarei, ou Dec. 23, at noon. The number present was not so large as usual on such occasions, owing to most of the brethren being engaged in preparing for the advent of Christmas, still there was a fair attendance, including a number of Past Masters. In consequence of the W.M., Dr. Sissons, being unable to attend, owing to the sudden illness of a near relative, the lodge was opened by the I. P.M., Brother Hanson, who presided during the reading and confirmation of the minutes of the preceding meeting, and while some other preliminary business was transacted,. after which Brother W. P. Moat, D.S.G.W., took the chair, aud with the usual formalities installed Brother Walter Simpson as W.M. for the ensuing year, who then appointed his officers as follows :—Brother Dr. Sissons, 1.P.M.; John McKay, S.W.; John MeKenzie. J. W.; Rev. W. H. O. Sineaton, chaplaiu ; William Bayne, treasurer; K. Thompson, P.M. secretary ; Malcolm McDonald, S.D.; Donald McLeod, JU.; .las. Havnes, 1.G.; Andrew Peterson, T. The usual addresses were then delivered, aud the installation ceremony completed, after which, on the motion of Brother Bedlington, the thanks of the lodge were conveyed by the W.M. to Brother Moat for his kindness in coming all the way from Auckland for the third time to conduct the installation ceremony. Brother Moat, in acknowledging the compliment, congratulated them on the present flourishing position of the lodge, having over fifty subscribing members ami •a good hall of their own. A number of the brethren and a few visitors met at the Hall on Christmas afternoon, when a cold collation was provided, and a very pleasant and instructive evening passed,
