MIRANDA.
A meeti.w of the settlers in this district was held in the schoolroom on Monday last, the 20th inst., for the purpose of raising a public library. After having elected a chairman, treasurer, secretary, and committee of five, the list was handed lound, when a sum of ten pounds was subscribed at once, besides donations of books from a few of the members, to the number of 200 volumes, of the value of about thirty guineas. Tlie above shows a good deal for tho intelligence and spirit of so small a community, and is a t;ood example to larger and more pretentious districts to go and do likewise. The success of this beginning shows what can be done in a small place when everybody works together and put their shoulders to the wheel. The shearing season is nearly over, which is always a busy time here. About forty bales will be sent away. The late rains have made the pastures most luxuriant, and all kinds of stock are looking Splendidly. The change after winter is most welcome. The value of produce sent away during the year from this little-known district is surprising, amounting to some thousands of pounds. It is got from wool, cattle, sheep, gum, fruit, 4c. If the place were better known, no doubt numbers would be glad to share in the great advantages of good land on a sea coast and close to a goldfield.—[A Correspondent, November 20.] i
