M. Clark moved tlie suspension of the standing orders so that they might be able to consider the suggestion of the Kngineer .as to the withdrawal of certain allotments now under otl'er. This having been agreed to, Mr. Clark moved that lots 100 to 114 be withdrawn from sale with a view to getting the Act altered so that the streets might be laid out in the direction pointed out by the Kngineer.—Agreed to.—The Engineer's progress report was then read. It stated that the widening of the outer tee of the Queen-street Wharf had been completed, and the widening and lengthening of the inner western tee was in a forward state, and would be finished in a few days. The Devonport Wharf (North Shore) was now repaired, and was quite strong enough for the ordinary trallic. The work of lengthening the Victoria Wharf was to be commenced at once. In moving his resolution, Mr. Hoardman pointed out the great difficulty merchants experienced in obtaining their goods under present arrangements, and consider a port such as Auckland .should advance with the time. The continuous delays were most vexatious both to merchants, shipowners, and others, and every cllbrt should be made to remove the cause of complaint.— Mr. Thompson thought that like Mr. May's motion Mr. 15oardman's was premature. At the same time he agreed with a good deal of what had been advanced by the mover of the resolution, but the land was not yet available, nor would it be for some time to come.—Mr. lJoardman remarked that, after eliciting the opinions of the members of the Board, and finding that their views were much in unison with his own, lie would withdraw his motion for the present.
