CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS.

A late number of the New Zealand Gazette gives the results of the Civil Service examinations of December. In the Junior Examination 94 candidates applied to be examined, S7 underwent examination, 36 caudidates passed, and 51 failed to pass. Of the candidates who failed—l 6 failed in all 4 subjects, 13 in 3 subjects, 12 in 2, 10 in 1 ; 36 failed in English, 34 in arithmetic, 38 in history, 29 in geography. Of the 36 who passed in the junior division, 10 were from Auckland, as follow : — Joseph Sykes, Auckland. Thirtysix examined, and 18 failed to pass in English, 30 examined and 5 failed in Latin, 36 examined and 5 failed in arithmetic, 36 examined and S failed in geography, 14 examined and 4 failed in trigonometry, 33 examined and 11 failed in algebra, 33 examined and 10 failed in geometry, 4 examined and 2 failed in physical science, 31 examined and 9 failed in history.
