Ous JMangonui correspondent writes: — Mr. Clcndon, R.M., held a Court here on Wednesday the 26th insfc., and disposed of a number of cases. One important case was brought by Mr. R. M. Houston, chainnan of the Maugonui County Council, against Mr J. L. Soubritzky, J.P., for the recovery of rates on the Muriewhenua Outlying district. The defence was that the rate was not levied in accordance with the Counties Act. The Chairman based his claim on the 'Rating Act, 1576, especially the 34th and 51th clauses of that measure. His Worship said that if Mr. Soubritzky had raised his objection at the Assessment Court, it would have been fatal. Judgment was given against Mr. Soubritzky with costs. This is the first time Mr. Clendon has visited the district. It would be much more satisfactory if he could visit it at stated periods. Mr. .John S. L. Cox has been appointed registrar of dog 3 for the Whou district. Mr William Stewart James Home Munro, of Wellington, Doctor of Medecine, has applied for letters patent for a new method of making cement. | ; - The estate of the late William Chandler, ' of ~nd, has been placed under the administration of tbe Public Trustee.
