THE WAIMATE PLAINS.
[BY TELEGRAPH, FROM OCR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Werekino, Thursday. CAMP MOVEMENTS. Colonel Roberts arrived in camp last night. This forenoon he crossed over the Waiweranui, with the view of inspecting the country beyond. Colonel Roberta returned to New Plymouth this afternoon to meet Mr. Bryce, and both are expected back here to - morrow or the following day, immediately after which the camp will be moved. Simultaneously the camp at Oeo will be moved to a point about four miles north of Opunake, and the two bodies of Constabulary will then work towards one another with the utmost expedition. WORKS. The extension of the telegraph line to Waiweranui is being rapidly pushed forward. The taking of the control out of the bauds of the Public Works Department, and placing the whole matter in the hands of the Defence Department, promises to be followed by the best results. So far, the Public Works Department has apparently endeavoured to secure as much expenditure of public money in Taranaki as possible without regard to the satisfactory settlement or otherwise of the Native difficulty.
