AUCKLAND COLLEGE AND GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Auckland College and Grammar School was held yesterday morning, at the offices of the Secretary, corner of Shortland and O'Con-nell-streets. Present : Dr. Campbell, Mr. G. M. O'Rorke, M.H.R., His Worship the Mayor (Mr. T. Peacock), and Mr. F. X). Fenton. Election or Chairman. —On the motion of Mr. O'Rorke, Dr. Campbell was re-elected chairman. Fittings.—Plans for fittings, &2., were submitted by Mr. Mahoney, architect. — Mr. Fenton moved, "That the question of fittings be postponed till that of classification is settled."—A conversation ensued as to the suitability of desks and tables, and it was finally agreed (Mr. Fenton withdrawing his motion) that a meeting be called at the school on Thursday next, to consider the question. Mid-day Vacation.—The Jiead master said that it was the opinion of the masters and the boys that during the mid-winter, one hour instead of one and a-ha!f hours be the time allowed for play at mi J day.—On the motion of the Mayor, it was agreed to adopt the suggestion, and that it take effect from May 1. Gymnastic Apparatus. — The head master wrote, that the gymnastic apparatus was now lying unused, on the ground. On the motion of the Mayor, it was agreed that the janitor be requested to consider where and how best they should be erected. Election of Governors. —The Secretary officially notified the election of Messrs. G. M. O'Rorke and Edwin Hesketh, as Governors. Examination" Marks —Tn the absence of Colonel Haultain, Mr. Fenton moved, " That a list of the boye, with the number of marks they had obtained at the last examination, be printed."—This was agreed to. Junior Master.—The head master notified that Mr. Tompson had entered on his ] duties. i Representation in the Senate. —The Mayor moved the resolution standing in his name, as follows: "That the Secretary be instructed to write to the Minister of Education, calling attention again to the disparity of members on the Senate of the New Zealand University, belonging to the Province of Auckland, and representing the strong opinion ef this Board, that the three vacancies at present existing should be filled by three Auckland gentlemen."—The motion . was carried.
