MR. SWANSON'S SPEECH.
TO THS EDITOR.
Sir, —Mr. Swauson, in his speech last week to the electors of Nekton, gave the public to understand that lie had been blamed for selling his support to the Government by having 4000 acres of land given to his son and his mother; that the facts were simply that his son and his mother were greaily annoyed that pigs were allowed to be styed over the place where their ancestors were buried, and that his only object was to prevent it; that they did not own an inch of that land, being only trustees. May I ask the member for Newton, if it was required to have 4000 acres of land given away to attain that object, were those ancestors buried over the 4000 acres, or were the pigs styed over the 4000 acrest Allowing that Mr. Swanson is a'luding to the 4314 acres of land lately granted to Tiinata Titoko and others and their heirs for ever, in trust for the Ngatiamaru, Ngatikahu, and iVgatikaitutai hapas of the Ngatipou tribe, and situated at Onewhero (Lower Waikato),. where there is an old XJaori burying-ground that could easily bs inclosed within a few acres, allow me to tell the member for Newton that last Tuesday, happening to pass over the same ground, I saw there a number of pigs belonging to the same Maoris to whom the 4314 acre 3 have been granted.—l am, &C-.
