ST PETER VERSUS THE ODIUM THEOLOGICUM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—Pastor Cbiniquy'a address, as reported iti your columns, while giving much information, is strangely marred by rough language and pttty details of a character ■which must bo regretted. As a Protestant, I deplore the Bomish errois he depicted, and cannot conceive why those errors have lasted bo long in the world. Yet it is a fact, and in regard to thom St. Pet-r's words are a command to receive without question— "Be pitiful, be courteous."' It l3 constantly gaked, " Why are theolgians so often rude to each other ?" Should not disciple* of the Saviour, "who, when He «as revl, raviled nor. again/' imitate Him in that respect ? Where do men who a.most unconncionsiy adopt a high and dictatorial tone get their model? Protestants have seen often how men who have seceded from Home sposk rudely of their old faith, and so do others who deserted Protestantism for Borne. The curious thing is, what good can be expected from disgusting a man witft vour cre?-rt and yourself, antl then trying to convert himt Y«t, such is tho generai movement o£ controversialist®. rtJiiJioas politic,!.
