VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The half-yearly Government inspection parade of the Nixon Light Horse took place on Thursday, afternoon last. Major Gordon was the Inspecting Field Officer, and Sergeant-Major Wainhouse, acting under fc'm, put the men through their drill. In all, thirty-six assembled in front of the drillshed, all being fully armed and.accoutred and well mounted. After the troop was told off and all other preliminaries gone through, they proceeded to Newmarket, the right division being thrown out in skirmishing order, firing blank ammunition and covering the advance of the left division as the troop passed along the road. They inclined to the right after passing the Junction, and went as far in the direction of Mount St. John as the private enclosures would permit. The rear guard then opened fire, and the whole moved onwards towards Epsom. They returned arms, drew swoids, and trotted as far as the Half-way House on the Onehunga Road. On arriving by'Gynne's public house, they wheeled to the right, and went up the green lane to the side road leading between the Three Kings and Onehunga. While on the march they formed sections, half-sections, and file. They debouched from tHis.road just above Onehunga, and wheeled to the right, taking what ie known as the Beach Kord. Having'returned swords, they drew arms, and marched through Onehunga at the •' carry" until they arrived at a green paddock in ithe rear o£ Mr. Brookfield's house. Here they formed in division, the right wing skirmishing, and the left supporting. Both wings then reformed and charged in line, and retired by fours from the right of divi-
sions.--'lhVroU?was; Gordon took-the-opportunity of congratulating both officers-and men on the high state of efficiency at .which the corps had" arrived, and passed: some well-deserved encomium on their and workmanlike' appearance. The business, being, over, all returned to Auckland after what" was really a hard afternoon's work"." "The officers sent were Captain'lsaacs, Lieutenant Calvert, and 'Sub-Lieutenant Peacocke, with Wainhouse'as; Instructor.
