VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The Hobson Company, under the command of Captain A. Bums, mustered, last evening, at head-quarters, Wellington-street, and headed by their efficient brass band, uuiU:r the. leadership of Band-master McCo'mish, inarched to the Princesstreet drill-shed for montlily inspection, when they were put through recruit and setting-up drill, under the supervision of Major G-ordon, the inspecting officer. After the drill the major presented the marksman's badges to Colour-Sergeant Connolly, Corporals Little, Gooseman, Taylor. Volunteer >1. Connolly, and Band-master jMcComish. After which the Major read some extracts from the report which he sent to the Assembly, and which bears a totally different aspect to the version furnished by some of the papers from the other provinces. The fault, as far as we could learn, and it seemed to be the general impression of those present, was that the report was too true to be pleasant to some of them—judging from the remarks v.hicli we heard expressed by the Volunteers ou their way from the shed. The Vohmteers in the Auekiaud district at least do not think the Major a military martinet, but they do recognise tlio fact that he is not only a soldier, an officer, and a gentleman, but one who has the irue interest of the Vohmteers at heart.
