PORT ALBERT.

ou will scarcely need to be informed that it was a tritle windy last Tuesday, as the gale was probably general. With ns it blew a fearful gale through Monday night and Tuesday. The day, however, was a tolerable bright one. I did hear of school children, being blown away and parents having to run after them like a man after a fly-away hat, but I cannot vouch for the truth of it, but I can for the injury done to the young foliage of the fruit trees where at all exposed to its force, the tips of the young leaves being quite shrivelled, giving the trees a blighted appearance. Fortunately it is a little too early to cause any serious damage. At the monthly meeting of the .agiicaltural Society, on Wednesday last, at the house of Mr. J. S. Menver, a paper was read on English versus Colonial Farming, bj T Mr. J. Shepherd, M.P.C., in which the writer deprecated in theory our slovenly practices. If he will now practically illustrate his theories lie may make us quite ashamed and lead us to iinj.rCv-a. The steamer Lily having been verv irreu'idar is; her service of late as regards Port Albert, tlio meeting requested our M. P. C to write to his Honor the Superintendent on the subject. It must be admitted in partial extenuation of her sins that stormy weather has prevented her sometimes from doing her duty. We are sorry that does not account for all her failings. Of all the misfortunes that can befall a poor settler we know of none that comes so ruthlessly as fire. I have to notice the destruction by fire of the house of A. andH. Turner (while they were absent for a few hours), with all it contained. This is the seventh I recollect having occurred in this settlement, really forming a heavy drain on its resources, all ansing from the want of a little care. — [Correspondent, Sept 20.]
