Boxing.
The Greymouth Boxing Association seems to be the only active body as far as boxing is concerned in the Dominion at the present time. They have decided to match Prank O'Neill, tjie local champion, with Peter Cook of Christchurch, the bout to take place in Greymouth on Saturday, the 2nd inst. "'Battling" Nelson, who has also been in search of O'Neill's scalp foj- some time past, will also* be given a try out on July 19th, whilst Matt James, the New Zealand light-weight champion, is to defend his title against Frank O'Neill in August. . Amongst the recent arrivals in New Zealand from the Front is the wellknown Coast boxer, A .Musson, who is at present residing in Christchurch. This hoy lias a. fine record in the ring, and has the proud distinction .of representing New Zealand at Home, where he acquitted himself with distinction. "Battling" Nv_/son, who meets Frank O'Neill as detailed above, hasi a -big Australian record. He is just now. in Wellington, is about 23 years of age, and weighs 9st lOlbs. French Georges Carpentier reckons that he can lick Bombardier Wells' in any ring at any time. "I've got the Indian sign on Billy," said Georges in a recent interview. Wells," by th way, was ill-advised to try his luck once more in a knock-out fight, and once more took the count. The Bombardier is a sure winner on points contest, but when it comes to heavy slogging he can't stand up to it. So long as his opponent can stand a lot of punishment in the preliminary rounds and then sail in and get to business, that's the end of the Bombardier.
