A left-hander, in his 35th year, he was first- tried against Derbyshire in 1909, scoring 54 and 2-1, taking four wickets for 34 runs, and making two fine catches. By the end of the 1914 season lie had scored 4352 rxi lie at an average of 26.66 for Yorkshire, and taken 489 wickets at a cost of 17.68 runs a wicket.
