Paterson of ! circulating a report thafc I was trying to geb fche surfaceman (Mr J, Thompson) dismissed so thab I mighb geb his bll'efc. Now, sir, m justice to Mr Paterson I wish to say that I have been under a misapprehension, and feel satisfied that) Mr Paterson was not the party who spread such reporb. I believe what Mr Pafceraon did say wa?, thafc ho was told, that if Mr Livingstone gob on the Council that he (Mr Livingstone) intended fco dismiss thG surfaceman, and put me on m his place. Whab Mr Livingstone's Intentions were Ido not know, but Ido know thab I never tried to geb lhe job, neither do I want ib. — I am, etc., Jajies Johnstone, I Windsor.
