STRIKE OF COALMINERS. (BY TELEGRAPH.)
Grbymouxh, Jane 1. The Coat Pit Heath pit miners have been on strike for tbs last week. It was thought they would go to work this morning, but no one rolled up when tha whistle blew. The men have bean paid 3i per ton hitherto, and demanded 4s. Tho company offered 3s Qi, and the men than asked that th« mine should be worked on tha *' cabling " system, by which tha men should arrange to change their places for working in every three month*. The manager objected to taking the power out of his hands in regard to working the mine. The directors supported the mao> ager, and decided to close the mine if the men refused the offers made. It ii still supposed the men will go to work to-morrow or next day, as they ara divided in opinion on the matter. In consequence of the ftrike the Taupo has been delayed since last Thursday. The Murray had to be sent north with ouly four trucks of coal. The Miori, Charlei Edward, ana Timsru are now waiting for coal. The Koran vi wilt come ia tonight, but there is no coal for her. The Taupo is not expected to get away before to-morrow. Although the spring tides are unusually low, there is 15 feet of water on the bar, and a wide channel.
