DUNEDIN. January 26.
Mr Nathan, a secularist candidate, who was rejected by one vote at the school committee election, has entered a protest on the ground that the returning officer refused to receive votes. Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Company have received the following cablegram, dated London, 24th January: "Trade shows no improvement, and prospects are not so good." Fat Cattle — The supply is moderate. Prime beef, 22a 6d per 100 lbs ; fat mutton, lfd per lb. The demand for young store sheep is very strong.
