D. ARCHIBALD AND SONS ENTERTAIN THEIR STAFF
It is always refreshing to hear of a firm wherein not only cordial, but liberal relations exist between employer and employee, and the entertaining to a banquet, of their staff by the directors of Messrs. D. Archibald and Sons Ltd. is surely an indication of the existence of such a relationship in that firm. The function was held in Foster’s rooms last Wednesday evening, and in all there were some thirty persons present. After the sumptuous repast had been appreciatively dealt with, the following toast list was honoured : The King ; The Firm ; The Staff ; The Ladies; and the Bride and Bridegroom (Mr. Vallance, a member of the staff, and his recently-married wife). Community singing helped to liven up the evening, while items contributed by Mrs. Vallance, Mr. Langley, Mr. Etheridge and Mr. McDowell were thoroughly enjoyed. At the conclusion of the festivities Mr. D. Archibald Snr. thanked each and every member of the staff for their loyal assistance during the year; it was this type of help, said Mr. Archibald, that had enabled the firm to grow from its small beginning to the substantial position it now occupied. He then presented each employee with an envelope containing in addition to a personal letter of appreciation, a substantial token in cheque form. Even without this added incentive, the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” would have been loud and sincere.
