Obituary

MRS. SARAH JANE CLARK

The death has occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H. H. Thompson of Victoi-ia Valley', of Mrs. Sarah Jane Clark in her 83rd year. Mrs. Clark was born in County Derry, Noi’thern Ireland, in 1855, and was married to the late William Newport Clark on April 18th, 1874. Her husband was the eldest son of the late William Clark, leading linen manufacturer of Nox*thei*n li*eland, and cousin of the Clark Bi*os. of cotton manufacturing fame. After their marriage they came to New Zealand, arriving in 1875, and with the exception of thi’ee years spent in Sydney, they’ lived in the Whangarei and Bay of Islands districts until the death of Mr. Clark in 1915. Mrs. Clark then divided her time between the members of her family until 1931 when she had a stroke which left her an invalid, and from then until the time of her death she made her home with her daughter at Victoria Valley. There are left to mourn their loss, four sons and three daughters, namely : William Henry and John Alexander (Helena Bay), Simon Newport (Okaihau), George (Kerikeri) and Mesdames H H. Thompson (Victoria Valley), T. H. Walker (Henderson) and E. C. Danby (Auckland), also numerous grand and great-grand-children. The interment took place at the Otonga Cemetery, the Rev. W. Elliott officiating at the graveside.
