Beautifying the Township The Kohukohu Girl Guides are out to beautify our township. A start is being made on the small triangular piece of land at the junction of the Beach road and the Boadwood top road. This is to be made into a rockery. The Town Board has built a stonewall as a base and have cleared the ground of weeds. Capt. Keightley of the m.s. “Ronaki” has designed the rockery and the girls will put the work in hand forthwith. Death of Mr. A. W. Armistead An old resident of Kohukohu, Mr. Anthony Wilson Armistead, passed away at his residence on Thursday last, in his 78th year. The late Mr. Armistead was wellknown and respected throughout Hokianga, having arrived in this county and settling at Broadwood some thirty years ago. He had not been seriously ailing for any length of time, and his death came as a shock to his many friends. He leaves a widow to mourn her loss. Bank Officer’s Transfer
Mr. F. Pender, manager of the Kohukohu branch of the Bank of New Zealand for the last five and a half years, has received notice of his transfer to Sydenham, Christchurch. Mr. Pender is a native of Christchurch. He will take up his new duties towards the end of next month. Improving Our Ways
The Kohukohu Town Board, takingadvantage of cheap labour under the No. 5 scheme, has within the last few weeks made some much-needed road work, widening the streets and laying down a footpath through the principal thoroughfare, commencing at the termination of the concrete footpath. The new path is topped with s/hell; a very fine job has been made of it. KOHUKOHU TOWN BOARD The usual monthly meeting of the Kohukohu Town Board was held in the Boardroom on Tuesday evening, September 29th, when there were present Cmrs. Mail (chairman), Potter, Remmington and King. As complaints had been made in regard to some anomalies in the valuation of some township properties the clerk was directed to write to the valuation department asking for an explanation or a revaluation. The clerk was instructed to write to a number of residents informing them that they must not allow drainage to run on to the footpath.
It was decided to approach the Hokianga County Council with a view to having drainage effected and a footpath made across the reclamation from the Bank of N.S.W. corner to the stone wall.
