Broadwood
School Concert On Thursday last, October 1, a most successful concert, held by the local school children was enacted in the A. and P. Hall, Broadwood. The items were all very good, the outstahding one being a play entitled “Catching a Lunatic,” in which Miss Ellen Dodds and Master Jack Harlow as two of the performers figured most prominently. Thanks are due to Mr. and Mrs. Ohlson and Miss Capper, teachers, for their painstaking and able training of the children. The hall was packed to its full capacity, a considerable number having to stand up wherever convenient. To add to the evening’s enjoyment a dance promptly followed, breakingup at about 1 a.m., after which the patrons took their leave, quite content with the evening’s entertainment. Golf Golf is undoubtedly a popular game, for even Broadwood will soon be in a position to boast of a club. Quite a number of players-to-be are enquiring re the price of golf clubs, etc.—plus fours excepted, hard times no doubt being the cause. In years gone by golf in this prospering city was an unheard-of means of recreation. Personal Miss Jean Middleton is now on a holiday visit to Auckland. Nurse Irving, who spent her vacation with her parents, has returned to take up her duties at the Mental Hospital, Auckland.
