The Richmond Borough Council advised that £lO worth of tar sealing would be carried out on the road from the showground gate when the work was being done on lower Queen street. It was stated by the secretary that as the road in question had been heavily metalled by the Army authorities it was doubtful if it would be ready for sealing before the next show. Mr C. R. Sutton reported on behalf of the committee appointed regarding the farming of the show grounds. The report is to be considered at tine next meeting. Amended schedules for the cattle, pigs, sheep, domestic produce, photography, farm and garden produce, dogs and poultry sections were approved. FIELD DAY FOR BACON TIGS The question of a class for bacon pigs to be judged at the show “on the hoof” and later at the Freezing Works “on the hooks.” much in the same way as the fat lamb competition, was discussed at length. The competition is -to be inaugurated, and the question of prize money is to be held over until next meeting when the whole matter will be finalised. BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CALF CLUBS The association’s representatives at the annual meeting of the Waimea Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural clubs reported on the meeting, and pleasure was expressed at the fact that the next club show is to be held in conjunction with the A. and P. The Appleby group, which includes Richmond, Hope. Ranzau, Appleby and Redwood's Valley schools, is to be offered the use of the A. and P. grounds with all facilities for their Group Show. Should the clubs wish it, the association will appoint judges for the calf clubs’ show. The secretary was authorised to ask Sir Patrick Duff, the British High Commissioner, to open the next show The Women’s Division of the N.Z.F.U. and Women’s Institutes courts are to be included in the schedule for the next show. STOCK FOR RETURNED MEN The president mentioned that it had been suggested that all dairy farmers who had good cows and who raised heifer cows be asked to raise one or two extra calves. These calves are later to be purchased by the Dairy Company, mated with a first-grade bull and made available to returned servicemen at cost price. Mr P. C. Hurst said he considered the idea was an excellent one. At the present time there were a number of returned boys looking for farms. Mr Hurst said that after the last war many returned men had gone on to farms and had failed, in many cases, because they had been unable ( to procure good stock.

Mr J. T. Baigent suggested that in future light refreshments be provided at the committee meetings. The secretary was authorised to arrange for this.
