Although the afternoon was there was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Lower : tere Women’s Institute which was b*W lat the home of Mrs Hulme After the I reading and adoption of the treasurers report, correspondence was dealt with and a motion of sympathy was patfgti 'to Mrs Drummond in the loss of her home by fire. Mrs Boyce, the Institute’s delegate to the conference submitted her report which members found most interesting and she was warmly thanked by the Presideht for her good work. Members responded well to the cpll call “A New Zealand Town or River I and what noted for.” Competition win.1 ners were: Competition A: Best bloom, ! Mrs Campbell 1. Mrs Rosenberg 2. and 1 Mrs Boyce 3; Competition B: clothes ! peg dressed in national costume, Mrs I Best 1, Mrs G. Starnes 2. 1 The president spoke to the members on the suggested combination of the Women’s Institute and Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and asked them all to consider this matter carefully before the time for voting arrived. A delicious afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Hulme and Bayse after which the President, Mrs Rosenberg, gave an instructive demonstration on ! the making of skin gloves. From this i demonstration members could readily see the advantage of making their own gloves in preference to buying the more I expensive imported ones.

A very pleasant afternoon passed in Mrs Hulme's cosy room round a good fire and the meeting closed with thanks to the hostess and the singing of the National An*hem. The August meet-, ing will be held at the home of Mrs C. Mackay.
