BOYS JUMP TO GROUND
1 LABORATORY EXPLOSION Melbourne, July 9. | Thirty boys had to smash window* | and drop 15ft to the ground when a I sudden explosion caused a fire in an upstairs chemistry classroom at Melbourne Grammar School. All the boys escaped serious injury, although several jarred their ankles and cut their hands. Part of the classroom was severely damaged. The chemistry master, M. K. N. Ricketts was distilling methylated spirits when a container burst. Mr Ricketts was shaken by the explosion, but rushed to a hose outside the building. Assisted by some of the older boys, he had the fire under control when fire brigades arrived.
