MENACE TO HEALTH

ITo the Editor! Sir, —How our bosoms swell with pride when visitors sing in praise of our little city. In the past this has been justifiable but I am afraid we are now on the down grade. Not that it is altogether the fault of our Council, for war conditions have increased their difficulties. Apart from footpaths sadly in need of attention, foliage overhanging and hedges crowding pedestrians off the same, dangerous trees alongside public thoroughfares, dozens of “jungle” sections (a constant fire menace), there is one abomination the community should not tolerate, and that is the pollution of city and environs by the canine fraternity. ... It is absolutely disgusting and unless checked a further increase in our hospital rates will eventuate on account of sickness. —I am, etc., “HEALTH.” Nelson, 24th April.
