HOPE RANZAU W.D.

The April meeting of the Hope-Ran-zau Women’s Institute was held in the Ranzau school, Mrs Lewis presiding over a good attendance. A minute's silence was observed for members suffering bereavement during the mofith. One visitor (Mrs Stallard) was welcomed. The motto “Think of ease, and work on.” was commented on. The roll call “Subscription Please” was responded to by all present. The Golden Thread from “Pioneer Tales” was read by Mrs D. Max. who took as her reading Wairau Valley. A posy was presented to a member having a birthday during the month. Mrs Johnston gave a comprehensive and interesting report on her recent, visit to Christchurch as delegate to the Dominion Council meeting and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Refugee sewing was discussed and a meeting was arranged for next Wednesday when all members were asked to assist. A bring and buy table with Mrs Schroder in charge did brisk business. Supper . was dispensed by the hostesses, Mrs E. Eden and Miss N. Challies. Competitions were judged by Mrs Stallard and resulted as follows:—1 cut bloom. Mrs M. Haycock (gladioli), 1; Mrs Lewis (begonia), 2; Mrs Reg Sutton (delphinium), 3; sugar bag basket, Mrs Haycock, 1: Mrs Gerrish, 2. The singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
