NATIONAL SAVINGS

NELSON QUOTA EXCEEDED TOP SCORES TO CITY AND TAKAKA FIGURES FOR FINANCIAL YEAR Another financial year has passed and once again the National savers of Nelson City and province have reason to be proud of their efforts towards the attainment of the various annual quotas allocated. The top scorers for the year were Nelson City, which' exceeded its quota by over £II,OOO, and Takaka with a surplus of over £3300.

The investors of the Takaka subdistrict should be a very proud section or - the community, for during each of the four years that have elapsed since the introduction of the National Savings quota scheme they have earned the honour of being the most regular and consistent investors, and furthermore, they have achieved the distinction of having invested the highest amounts, on a population basis, of any area in the province. A return of the year’s investments (excluding those made during the Victory War Loan period) and the respective annual quotas allocated is as follows:

Mr C. Milner, chairman of the Nelson National Savings Committee, in commenting on this return, states that although Motueka and Upper Moutere areas did not reach their objectives the surplus resulting from investments made in the other areas far exceeded the deficiencies and the results as a whole were very gratifying. At the same time the necessity for regular and constant saving by the people as their contributions towards the successful termination of the war must not be neglected. Those who owned National Savings bank-books should see to it that their endeavours for 1945 exceeded all previous efforts. There was no reason, he added, why every sub-dis-trict in the Nelson Province should not be able to emulate that of the Takaka investors.
