EVASION OF TAX PAYMENT

INVESTIGATIONS TO BE MADE

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, This Day. “Every effort is being made by the Land and Income Tax Department to detect tax evasion,” stated the ActingMinister in Charge of the Department, Mr Nordmeyer, in the House of Representatives yesterday, when replying to an urgent question by Mr Langstone (Government, Waimarino). The Minister added that the shortage of staff prevented a special inquiry being instituted at present, hut as soon as possible a full-scale investigation would be undertaken and minute inquiries made into the activities of any person, whether alien or otherwise, suspected of having avoided his taxation responsibilities.
