CHANGE BACK TO BUTTER
SPECIAL PAYMENT TO BE APPORTIONED Wellington, This Day. j The basis which should be adopted in : apportionment of the special payment of 1 lid a lb for butterfat between the farmowner or supplier and the sharemilker was outlined last evening by the Minister of Marketing. Mr Barclay. This payment is being made to suppliers who changed over to cheese-making during the last two seasons and now have reverted to butter-making. "The payment is intended to be compensation for inevitable losses incurred and sacrifices made in the change-over to cheese-making and in the reversion to butter-making, including reduced returns from pigs during the 1942-43 season," said Mr Barclay. "While the special payment is made by dairy companies to the supplier in each case, it is intended that the apportionment of the payment between the supplier and the sharemilker shall be settled by them in accordance with the degree of losses or sacrifices made by them respectively. "It is impossible to lay down any rule covering apportionment of the amount because the circumstances in individual cases vary considerably. It is suggested that if agreement between the supplier and the sharemilker cannot be reached, the apportionment should be determined by arbitration in the manner provided by clause 38 of the standard terms and conditions of sharemilking agreements (schedule to the sharemilking agreements order. 1939, as amended by the amending order of 3rd September. 1941).”—P.
