THAT CAR SHED
NOTICE OF LEGAL ACTION COUNCIL "RECEIVES” LETTER The car shed which the City Council i recently allowed to be erected on its property at the corner ol Bronte and Scotland streets continues as a subject for correspondence to the council. The latest turn in the efforts of those who desire its removal came in the form of a solicitor’s letter to last night’s meeting giving notice that Miss Flowerday, ; the resident nearest to the shed, in- j tended to resort to the law, and would j take action for the removal of the shed j which, it was alleged, created a nuis- j ance. The council "received” this let- ! ter. j A further letter was read from Mrs i
M. E. Hunter protesting against what I* the writer described as the "unfair and hasty manner" in which the council arrived at its decision to allow the shed to remain on its present site. The Mayor (Mr E. R. Neale) said he took strong exception to that part of Mrs Hunter’s letter in which it was stated that the council had been “unfair and hasty.” In all his 18 years as a member of the council there had never been any so comparatively small a matter which had had more fair consideration by the council. The matter was given careful consideration and every councillor had visited the site. Councillor S. W. Street said that each councillor had gained the necessary knowledge to vote on the subject, according to his opinion, by visiting the | site. i It was decided that Mrs Hunter be advised that the site and shed were inspected by all the members of the council before its decision was made at an adjourned sitting of the September meeting.
